Josh sat idly spacing out at his desk for about 10 minutes when his cell phone rang. “Lake here” he answered without looking.

“Hello Josh.”

Josh went silent for a minute

“Who is this?” he finally asked.

“You might have forgotten my voice over the years Josh but the last time we talked was this morning. You know it’s me.”

“I’m gonna get checked out.”

“I’m sure you will. You weren’t very nice to that girl.”

“She wasn’t very nice to me,” Josh growled.

“Still. That’s no excuse. What’s…

I look outside the window. The snow is picturesque. In Canada, the cold has a tendency to get into your bones, but inside, in a warm and well-heated building, the white blanket covering the world is deceivingly beautiful. Canada in general is a beautiful country. In the summer, it feels as gorgeous as it looks outside. In many ways, it’s the perfect setting. But I am far from a perfect man. I do not refer to my faults, though they be many. I refer to the homesickness from which I suffer. I close my eyes, and I’m in Egypt, driving…

Why publish yourself? Because nowadays, you can do it for free. Traditional publishing and the paths leading towards it are unfair, uneven, and generally inconsistent. But if we’re going to bash traditional publishing for its irregularity and unfairness, it only makes sense to be fair ourselves. You need to know what you get out of traditional publishing before postponing it. Or even outright rejecting it. So let’s begin by highlighting its advantages.

Pros

Quite a lot of people heard of a character called Ra’s al Ghul. In the DC universe, and films based on DC publications, Ra’s al Ghul is a major antagonist, frequently clashing with Batman. He leads several groups, the most prominent being his “League of Assassins”. But in fact, the DC villain was not the first character to bear the name. Another character bearing the name appears centuries earlier, in Egyptian folklore. …

1. Become a Body Guard — In some legal jurisdictions, all you need to hire yourself out as somebody’s personal protection officer is a Security Guard license, which is relatively easy to obtain. Often you take a short online course, a live, hands-on, first aid…

*Disclaimer: A friend told me the first chapter reminded her a lot of Mitch Albom’s “The First Phonecall From Heaven” work. To date, I have never read that novel, and though he published his in 2013, a year before I started working on mine, I was not aware it existed until sometime in the last two years when I saw it displayed at Walmart. Probably 2019. The similarity of the names made me consider changing mine, but I decided against it. The name has been on my mind far…

A Novel by A. A. Alfy

Introduction

I’ve worked on serials before, but I never imagined this novel would be published in serial form. In the works since 2014, this work was supposed to be my first “serious novel”. Traditionally, serial novels are more thought of as pure entertainment, rather than doubling as potentially great works of literature. So I thought, but then I changed my mind. Because the times are a changing and this… This is a novel about our times. …

Pfizer just announced the most successful Covid-19 vaccine to date. An American pharmaceutical giant, Pfizer’s major announcements often affect the stocks globally. Think; Viagra. In this instance, not just the Pfizer stock values increased. Due to implications for the global pandemic narrative, other companies’ stock values soared or plummeted with the announcement.

This is hopeful news for many. The governmental restrictions relating to Covid-19, the panic that swept across many communities, affected most of the world’s population. People who believe no restrictions are enough, people who believe the restrictions are too much, even the small minority of people who don’t…

The following is a work of fiction. *Ahem Ahem*. Sorry. Bad cough. Yes, a work of fiction. Of interest to a great many Canadians. Names, characters, businesses, places, events, locales, and incidents are either the products of the author’s imagination or used in a fictitious manner. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental.

It started with a job offer. I graduated from pharmacy school before settling in Canada. When I fully settled here, in 2016, I applied for a job as a pharmacy assistant to get some market experience. Then I got an…
